In this article, we will design a Gantt chart in Microsoft Visio. Gantt charts are graphical representations of task-based projects that we can design in Visio. In Visio there are predefined templates are available for the Gantt chart and you can start from the brank one. If you are familiar with editing the template then you can start it.
The tasks in the Gantt chart are both listed in a tabular format and displayed graphically as taskbars, reflecting their duration. By linking related tasks, Visio can automatically adjust the timeline when tasks are delayed or completed before scheduled.
That's why we say Gantt charts are the ideal tools to use if you are responsible for scheduling a project and tracking the duration of each of the tasks in the project to ensure the project is completed on time.
If you want to design a Gantt chart then you can start from the brank diagram or use a pre-defined template.
Let's Get Started:
Open Visio then Go to the File Menu. In the File menu, we can see the New open new menu then we can see the Gantt chart then click on the Gantt chart.
When we will select the Gantt chart then a new window will appear on our screen. In Gantt Chart we can see a blank page along with three different types of templates.
If we will select the bank page then in the shapes pane we can see all shapes related to the Gantt chart. If you have a grip on designing a Gantt chart then you can start with a blank template and go for designing a Gantt chart.
If you are not familiar with starting with the blank one you can select any one templates from the above image.
If we start from any template we just go with the template then edit the data according to our information.
I am going to start with the top right side of the template of my attached image.
As we can see that our Gantt chart is inserted in our Visio drawing.
You can see that there are two sides to the Gantt chart. On the right-hand side, we can a graphically representation of the task that we have designed in Visio drawing and on the left-hand side we can see the information of the Gantt chart like a task, starting date, end date, and at the end, there is a duration of the task.
If you want to edit information in the above Gantt chart you can edit it according to your information.
I think there is the best way to start the Gantt Chart from the blank diagram then use the shapes from the Shape pane.
I am going to mention step-by-step information in the above screenshot so that you can easily understand it and can design Gantt Chart for your own project according to your given information.
- Task Options: In task options, we insert a number of tasks that we have to go to 5, and 8 then we can go with it. If there are 5 tasks then you can go with 5. If there are 8 tasks then you can go with 8 and vice versa.
- Duration Options: In these options, we insert the duration of all that that we have to perform in our project.
- Time Units: Time units be the time in which our project is to go and time units can be days, weeks, months, quarters, and years.
- Timescale Range: In this interval, we insert the time range when the project will start and end.
