Difference between Pointer Tool and Connector Tool in Microsoft Visio?

In this article, we will talk about the Pointer tool and Connector in Visio. Both have a different function but sometimes we can work with a connector as we normally use the pointer tool in Visio.

In the above screenshot, we can see Pointer Tool and Connector are highlighted. In normal conditions when we are working with the Visio drawing then actually we are dealing with the Pointer Tool.

For Example: When we select the Pointer Tool. After that in the shape window, we have already opened "Basic Flowchart Shapes" also we can see the basic flowchart shapes in the shapes window.
Now we can click and drag shapes from the Shapes window to the artboard in Visio drawing.

Now, I am going to insert some shapes to the artboard in Visio drawing then see what happens to our drawing.

As for now, we can see that our shapes are inserted in our Visio drawing. There is no text involved in the shapes, no fill color, and the outline is black color.
Also, if we want to insert text to our Visio drawing then only with the help of the Pointer Tool. We have not selected any tool so far after the selection of the Pointer tool.
After inserting text we just have to double click on the shape then the cursor will blink on our shape then after that we can write desired text to our Visio shapes in Microsoft Visio.

Now, we can see that our text is inserted into our Visio shapes. Now we have to connect the shapes to each other.
We use a Connector when we have to connect the shapes in Visio drawing. For this purpose, we have to select the  Connector tool first then our cursor will change with a plus sign, and a line shows that our cursor is ready for connecting shapes to each other.

Now we are going to connect the first shape to another. When we will go to the right side of the first shape and the left side of the second shape then we can see that our shape will be inserted.

We have inserted a connector between the first shape and the second shape. Similarly, we can insert the connector between the other shapes as well then finally we will see the result of what happens.

We can see that when we are working with our Visio drag then we use the pointer tool. After inserting shapes when we have to connect the shapes to each other then finally use the connector tool.
Actually when we connect the shapes with the help of a connector then it shows a relation between the process to our flowcharts, org chart, and network diagram.
